The Italian government released a video game – here’s why

ITALY: Wonderland aims to help more people discover the culture and heritage of Italy.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has launched its very first video game to help promote the country and all its beauty.

Available on iOS and Andriod, ITALY: Land of Wonders aims to allow players to explore Italy through a series of interactive experiences. This is quite similar to some of the experiences we detailed for Oculus and Vive owners in our best places to visit in the VR guide at the start of the pandemic.

Available in 11 languages, the free game asks the player to help Elio, a former lighthouse keeper, collect 20 sparkles to ensure the sun continues to shine over Italy.

During the game, the player will meet five Guardians, who will guide him in the discovery of Nature, Cuisine, Art, Performance and Design, the five main pillars of Italian culture and heritage.

The game features 100 puzzle levels, each consisting of a 3D rendition of an iconic Italian landmark. There is also a collection of 600 articles filled with stories, news and fun facts about the country.

The game is designed for people who want to learn more about the country and should appeal to those more familiar with Italian culture.

Finally, the music also consists of original scores of the great Italian classics, offering the whole Italian experience to anyone who decides to discover it.

ITALY: Land of Wonders is part of the MAE’s post-Covid programming strategy aimed at supporting the Italian cultural and creative sectors.
