The restaurant has been hailed as the ‘best Italian food in Nottinghamshire’ after receiving the award for best review site

Owners John and Louise Boddice are in partnership with family friend Christian Colarieti, 48, from Rome, Italy, and opened the restaurant in March 2022.

John, 44, from Mansfield, said he met Christian in 1999 and the pair have been friends ever since.

John said Louise, 37, from Newark – whom he met in 2010 in the hospitality industry – keeps the doors open, managing reception and overseeing paperwork, recruitment and marketing.

John said: “We received the Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice award. Only the top 10% of restaurants in the world receive this distinction.

“We do traditional cooking and offer solid food of good quality.

“I spend most of my time working in the kitchen on homemade meals with Chris.

“We like to have a family business, we are not interested in expanding or becoming a brand – we are happy to provide quality food and service here.

“My parents also help me with maintenance, so the whole family is involved.

“The support has just been fantastic.”

One customer hailed the “fantastic” service and food as she kept coming back.

Highlights include fresh bread, ricotta cheese and all the desserts made “from scratch”.

John said: “What we cannot manufacture, we import independently – no expense is spared.

“We want the best for our customers.

“All staff eat free and when visiting friends or family they get massive discounts.

“We pay our staff more than minimum wage because we want to make sure they are looked after and supported.

“We want to treat our guests and our team equally well, which is why our staff retention is very good.”
